CAIA - Certified Advanced IAQ Assessment

This onsite, hands-on course is designed to train the IAQ professional to follow the successful NORMIPro Management model of holistic, solution-based assessments. Attendees are given two days of classroom training which includes the solution-based assessment process, sampling strategies/techniques, laboratory report interpretation, report/protocol writing and IAQ solutions.

Between these two days of classroom training in a hands-on, onsite assessment which includes the following environments:

  1. Small Apartment/Home/Condo-This walk-through assessment of a 1200sqft environment (single HVAC system) will include discussions to determine what sampling strategy should be used and what information should be gathered to determine potential elevated levels of mold, bacteria or VOCs which might be present. Students will learn how to interview the occupants and develop the flow chart for implementing the onsite assessment process.
  2. Medium-Sized Home-This onsite visit to a 3000sqft private residence will enable the student to better understand the building envelope and how it impacts the assessment process. The entire assessment process, including samples being taken, will be completed on this residence with plans established to create an assessment report on the third day of class. This home has two HVAC systems and utilizes a conditioned, non-vented attic space for energy efficiency and better indoor air quality. Students will discuss the advantages/disadvantages onsite.
  3. Small Church Building-A visit to a 6500sqft, three HVAC system church building that has eight classrooms, two bathrooms and a sanctuary will allow the student to understand the differences between residential and commercial assessments. Students will develop the sampling strategy and discuss the uniqueness of this kind of environment where occupation of the building is intermittent. This is the perfect environment to discuss isolation of remediation processes and engineering controls should a remediation project be needed.
  4. Small Hospital/Apartment/Cruise Ship-In the classroom, students will develop, from the mechanical and/or as-built architectural plans, a sampling strategy for the purpose of estimating the cost of an assessment on a small commercial project. The NORMIPro Management business model includes assessment pricing without a site visit, which can be accomplish most of the time. A relatively small amount of information is needed to estimate the cost of an assessment without a site visit. Those questions are developed so the student can create a model for accomplishing that goal.

"NORMIPro Management, LLC has been incredibly successful in both the residential and commercial environment. Our holistic, solution-based process is now shared through the training as the basis of this higher level certification. There are many pieces of the total assessment process that are included in this class, woven together to create a great business model that any IAQ entrepreneur can follow and by which they will become more successful." Doug Hoffman, CEO of NPM
